Legacy Community Health, one of the largest community health center networks in Texas, will open two new state-of-the-art pharmacies in Houston's Montrose and Fifth Ward neighborhoods.

The pharmacies will be located inside existing Legacy clinics for better community access and continuity of care. Both patients and non-patients can use the services.

The Fifth Ward pharmacy is already open and the Montrose pharmacy is scheduled to open Tuesday.

"We are excited about owning and operating pharmacies in Houston," said Karen Gurwitch, vice president of Pharmacy Operations at Legacy Community Health, in a statement. "It allows us to embed trained pharmacists into our existing team-based care model, while providing the communities we serve with personalized health services and shorter wait times.

"Pharmacy expansion is part of the organization's larger goal of improving health outcomes of our patients," she said in the statement.

The two new facilities will offer, in addition to advanced pharmacy procedures, a range of services that include prescription delivery, medication counseling and immunizations.

The two pharmacies are part of Legacy's overall growth strategy for 2017, which has included opening three new clinics in Houston. A fourth new campus is scheduled to open in North Houston next month.
